Job Searching for over 50s
Friday, 12 October 2018
9:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Coonara Community House logo
In Victoria today if you lose your job past the age of 50, you are in the hardest age bracket to find work again. The average older job seeker searches for work for twice as long as a 15-24 year old. The average time unemployed 55 to 64 year olds spend looking for work has hit an 11-year high of 116 weeks.

A recent survey by the Australian Human Rights Commission found that 27% of Australians aged 50 years and over indicated that they had experienced some form of workplace age discrimination in the last two years and that 33% of them gave up looking for work as a result of experiencing age discrimination.

This workshop will explore job searching specifically for this age group. It will include options for volunteering to meet Newstart requirements as well as training and self employment options.
