Knox City Council's Health Services Unit provides an immunisation service to all pre-school and school aged children together with a service to adults based on the National Recommended Immunisation Schedule. Please select the appropriate links below for more information.

Whilst we have endeavoured to provide as much information about immunisation as possible as well as links to a number of other sources we would also recommend that you contact your doctor or health care professional if you have any further questions or concerns about immunisation. You can also contact Knox Council's Health Services on 9298 8000 or email us at: Health Services.

2013 Hepatitis B Vaccine Catch-Up
The Year 7 vaccine program is changing in 2013. The hepatitis B vaccine will not be given at school. Most Year 7 students will have had hepatitis B vaccine as a baby. If a 12 – 13 year old child was not vaccinated as a baby they can get free catch-up vaccines during 2013. The child should go to a doctor or local council immunisation service. They must have both doses during 2013. From 2014 Year 7 students will no longer be eligible for free hepatitis B vaccine.

Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) - Secondary School Program
An ongoing HPV vaccine program for boys in Year 7 begins in 2013. This will mean that both boys and girls in Year 7 of secondary school will benefit from the Gardasil® vaccine. Year 9 secondary school boys will be targeted for a catch-up Gardasil® vaccine program for two years only. This two-year time-limited school-based program occurs in 2013 and 2014.

Influenza Vaccine Strains
For 2013 the following strains of flu like virus will be included, in a single vaccination, to offer increased resistance to seasonal influenza:
• A (H1N1): an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) - like virus
• A (H3N2): an A/Victoria/361/2011 (H3N2) - like virus
• B a B/Wisconsin/1/2010 - like virus.
The Australian Influenza Vaccine Committee (AIVC) selects influenza viruses for the composition of the annual trivalent influenza vaccines which has then been accepted by the Therapeutic Goods Administration.
