Community commitment to local conservation has always been strong in the Knox area. However, the general community has become even more aware of environmental issues in recent years and this has prompted people to discover ways to become more actively involved in local bushland reserves.
The Friends Groups listed below are established within Knox. If you would like to get involved and/or volunteer with a group of like-mind people, please see below for relevant contact details. A listing of the proposed activities for 2009 can be viewed in the related link at the bottom of this screen.

| Friends of Koolunga Native Reserve Inc. | | Located off Forest Road in Ferntree Gully, this Friends Group has been established since 1994. Primarily, the Friends of Koolunga Native Reserve assist in the implementation of the Koolunga Native Reserve Management Plan and co-ordinate project mornings every second Saturday of the Month.
The Friends of Koolunga Native Reserve has developed an extensive web site that includes information on the plants and animals found in the reserve.

| First Friends of Dandenong Creek, Inc. | | The First Friends of Dandenong Creek has adopted the area along Dandenong Creek between Bayswater Road, Bayswater and Boronia Road, Wantirna. Key activities of this group is monitoring water quality, rubbish removal and planting of indigenous plants.

| Friends of Knox – Blind Creek Billabong Group | | Established in 2001, this group assists with the implementation of the Blind Creek Billabong Management Plan. The Blind Creek Billabong Group meet 4 times a year and conduct weeding, rubbish removal and indigenous planting activities.

| Friends of Knox - Timmothy Drive Group | | Established in 2003, this group concerntrates on the reaches of Blind Creek in Wantirna. The Timmothy Drive Group meet 3 times a year and conduct weeding, rubbish removal and indigenous planting activities.

| Friends of Knox – Lucas Close and Old Joe's Creek Group | | Located next to Old Joes Creek Retarding Basin, the Lucas Close bushland was purchased by Council for its biological significance. The Lucas Close Group meet 4 times a year and conduct weeding, rubbish removal and indigenous planting activities.

| Friends of Knox – Morris Reserve Group | | Established in 2002, this group assists with the maintenance of Morris Reserve located in Wantirna. The Morris Reserve Group meet 4 times a year and conduct weeding, rubbish removal and indigenous planting activities.

| Friends of Knox – Lakewood Nature Reserve Group | | The Lakewood Nature Reserve Group assist with the implementation of the Reserve’s management plan and meet 4 times a year and conduct weeding, rubbish removal and indigenous planting activities.
Knox Rotary joined this Friends Group in early 2003 and have donated their time to complete indigenous plantings and remove various environmental weeds.

| Friends of Knox - Wicks Reserve Group | | Wicks Reserve is located on The Basin - Olinda Road, in The Basin. The Wicks Reserve friends group was established in October 2003 and meet three times a year to undertake weeding, planting and clean up activities.
