A Council permit is required to place a skip container on road reserves (on a road, footpath, crossing, nature strip or lane) within the municipality.

| How Do I Get A Skip Bin Permit? | | Permits can only be issued to contractors who are accredited with Knox City Council. Please contact one of the accredited companies listed in the table below to obtain a skip bin permit.
A permit is not required if a skip bin is placed on private property.
Permits are valid for seven days and are subject to the general conditions for placement of skips on road reserves within the City of Knox.

| Skip bin safety | | A skip bin must have:
• reflectors that make the bin visible in all conditions for a minimum distance of 100 metres, and
• the supplier’s name and telephone number in characters at least 10 centimetres high, CLEARLY displayed on the side of the bin.

| I Am A Contractor – How Do I Get Accredited? | | Knox City Council has two methods of accreditation. Both methods require the completion of the Skip Bin Accreditation form and a copy of the company’s public liability coverage:
• Yearly permit, with an annual fee of $676.50, allowing the skip bin company multiple placements in the municipality; or
• One-off placement permit, with a fee of $69.30 per placement.
Both methods require notification of placements to be forwarded to the Local Laws office on fax: 03 9298 8507, at least 24 hours before placement.
Penalties for not complying with the Local Law may include an on the spot infringement of $200 or if warranted the company may be summonsed to appear at a Magistrates Court where the maximum penalty may be up to $2000.
Bins that do not comply with Council's Policy and that have been placed in a dangerous situation will be impounded by Council and all costs involved will be charged direct to the bin owner.
