Knox City Council is pleased to re-launch the Responsible Pet Ownership Competition for Knox residents.

Win Prizes for being a Responsible Pet Owner!

Council's Responsible Pet Ownership Competition is back for 2016. The competition is looking to reward responsible pet owners that reside in Knox for doing the right thing by their pet. If you know someone who you feel deserves to win for being a responsible pet owner, nominate them now. Fill in our online nomination form below.

The competition which will be run quarterly throughout the year will see responsible owners awarded with prizes sponsored by local businesses in Knox.

How can responsible pet owners be nominated?

Neighbours and friends can nominate responsible pet owners living in Knox for a chance to win one of the prizes on offer. Local Laws Officers will also be on the look out to nominate responsible owners during their day to day activities, for example when on parks patrols checking ‘on lead’ areas. You can nominate a responsible pet owner online through the online form which can be found at the bottom of this page

What makes a responsible dog owner?

  • Dogs should be registered with Knox City Council
  • Dogs should wear a current registration tag.
  • Dogs need to be walked on a lead
  • Dog owners should be in possession of poop bags and pick up any waste
  • Dogs should be microchipped

What makes a responsible cat owner?

  • Cats should be registered with Knox City Council
  • Cats should be wearing a current registration tag.
  • Cats should be desexed
  • Cats should be microchipped.

Other considerations

In choosing a winner for the competition in relation to dogs, officers may take into consideration any obedience training undertaken, if its de-sexed, the dogs behaviour as well as any previous interaction with council.

In choosing a winner in relation to a cat, officers would consider if the cat has access to a suitable enclosure and again would look at previous interactions with council.

Competition excludes employees of Knox City Council (including immediate families members), and its affiliates or agents. Personal information is held in accordance with Knox City Council’s Privacy Policy. The submission of a nomination form is deemed to be acceptance of these terms and conditions. All entries are received online via the nomination form found at: All nominees are subject to a Local Laws history check. Only pets who are actively registered with Council and have a good history will be eligible for this competition. The periodic winner will be contacted and notified by a Council officer who will also explain prize details and its collection. All winners are announced via Council’s website and social media channels
