Respite Support

Knox home care services

Knox City Council provides an integrated range of home support services for people who are frail, older and/or have a disability and their carers.

The Respite Support service is designed to give a primary carer a break from their supporting role. This service assists carers of people who are frail, older and/or people who have a disability (including children) to have time away from the caring role to partake in their own social, family, personal or community activities.

Trained, professional and qualified staff are able to assist clients in their own home in a respectful and caring manner. They respect the wishes of the family carers and guardians and treat all matters in a confidential manner.

Tasks which may be undertaken include:

  • Assisting with dressing and showering
  • Toileting and other hygiene routines
  • Supervision with food preparation and meal time assistance
  • Assisting with therapy routines
  • Supporting siblings

All services are subject to an assessment in your home. The aim of the assessment is to identify how we can best support you and your family and promote an independent and active lifestyle.

The person to be cared for as part of the respite (adult or child) must be present during the assessment. Please note that we are only able to look after a maximum of three children at any time, or two children with disabilities, if safe to do so with one support worker.

Services are provided after taking into account eligibility, assessed need and available resources.
The cost of service is dependent upon income.

Service is available Monday to Saturday between the hours of 6.00am - 12.00pm.
