Gardens for Harvest

Would you like to grow your own fresh vegetables and fruit at home and not sure where to start?
Are you already growing your own food and would like to learn more to increase your harvest?

Gardens for Harvest is a program for Knox residents. It aims to help build skills and knowledge in how to grow your own fresh fruit and veggies and how to maintain a veggie garden.

The Gardens for Harvest program is run by the Sustainable Futures team of Knox City Council.

Workshop - Australian Native Foods Garden Design

Find inspiration to create your own native food kitchen garden. Come along and hear about Australia’s wonderful native food plants:

  • Which plants will grow best in your garden
  • How to grow and propagate them
  • How to use them in everyday cooking

Julie Weatherhead, author of Australian Native Food Harvest: A Guide for the Passionate Cook and Gardner will conduct this workshop designed for keen gardeners and cooks wishing to grow their own native foods. Julie has over 20 years’ experience in growing and cooking with Australia’s unique edible plants with her research focused particularly on the nutritional, environmental and culinary properties of these foods.

Come along, hear this engaging and knowledgeable speaker, and learn what our environment has to offer.

Self-Watering Gardens - Wicking Beds & Pots

Wicking beds and pots are very water efficient garden beds that are watered from a reservoir below the soil.

Come along to this workshop run by Sustainable Gardening Australia, be introduced to the principals involved, and give you the know-how to build a wicking garden system at home. Be involved in the creation of a fully functioning wicking bed.

  • Getting your kids involved in growing food for your family will help them to learn about where food comes from and assists with development of many life skills.
