Immerse is one of the largest and most innovative art exhibition programs in Australia. It is an exhibition that breaks free of an art gallery and through art and storytelling inspires audiences to experience art in the unexpected places of their everyday. Immerse is a conversation with an audience of thousands, first developed and coordinated by Knox City Council in 2015.

The program provides exhibitions, artist talks and performances across local Knox venues over 30 days, making available high quality contemporary art and opening up new cultural conversations to the Knox community and beyond. In 2019 Immerse will debut in an exciting new biennial format with three centralised cultural hubs.

Knox City Council are seeking expressions of interests for inspiring artworks from artists and art groups wishing to exhibit as part of the biannual Immerse exhibition program.

Multiple Theatre Technicians required for busy Arts Centre in Bayswater - These are casual positions in which shifts are offered as required by events.

Skills and experience in Lighting, Audio & Vision in a live events environment and ABN Required.

Position involves being able to work independently as sole venue technician, as well as support other technicians at the venue.

Experience with MA Lighting consoles and Allen & Heath Audio consoles is a bonus.

Art Programs

With the recent development of the Public Art Policy Knox City Council is embarking on a Public Art Program. The Public Art program is managed by Community Arts. As well, the Civic Art Collection and Placemaker Legacy art collection are managed by the Community and Public Arts Officer.

Art projects are continually created throughout the year. Projects such as Touch this Earth Lightly, Suburban Bloom and Wearable Arts have been developed in collaboration with other Council departments to assist in the communication of important community messages and ideas that help improve community members’ lives.

Knox has two community arts centres that provide a range of art classes and activities each term including pottery, yoga, dance and school holiday programs.

Knox Community Art Centre

The Knox Community Art Centre has been entertaining audiences for the past 40 years with a wide range of professional and amateur theatre including opera, cabaret, dance, circus, cinema, children’s theatre and music.

The Centre’s commitment to developing partnerships has played a huge role in developing the calibre of the theatre shows within the City of Knox and partnerships to date include The Arts Centre Melbourne, Opera Australia, Deaf Children Australia, Australian Jazz Museum, La Mamma Theatre and Deakin University. As well, the Centre maintains a strong sense of community ownership and has assisted many amateur theatre groups to stage their performances.

The centre boasts a contemporary foyer complete with the 20Twenty exhibition and gallery space, a public sculpture, accessible entrance ramp and front deck and landscaping.

Ferntree Gully Community Arts Centre

Nestled in a peaceful bushland setting, the Ferntree Gully Community Arts Centre is the perfect venue to explore your creativity. It presents a range of art classes and workshops with a focus on pottery for adults and children. The venue is available to hire and shares the building with the local Ferntree Gully Library.

Knox City Council facilitates a range of community festivals and events each year located at various venues across the municipality. Major events include Knox Festival, Stringybark Festival and Carols by Candlelight.
