NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC Week celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements. It recognises the contributions of Indigenous Australians to our country and society.

NAIDOC

NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

The National NAIDOC Committee makes decisions on national celebrations each year. It has representatives from most Australian states and territories.

NAIDOC began in the 1920s with the emergence of Aboriginal awareness groups. These groups helped build an understanding of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.

NAIDOC Week 2024

NAIDOC Week happens once a year in July.

NAIDOC Week calls Australians to support systemic change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Whether it’s seeking environmental, cultural and heritage protections, Constitutional change, a comprehensive process of truth-telling, working towards treaties, or calling out racism — we must do it together.
