Recreation and Leisure Committee (RLC)

What is the role of the Recreation and Leisure Committee?


As an advisory committee of Council, the role of the RLC is to:

  • Provide strategic advice and input relating to the development of Council’s leisure plans and policies.
  • Provide input into Council’s processes relating to sport where requested e.g. provide feedback regarding projects to be considered by Council for submission to Sport and Recreation Victoria grant programs.
  • Engage in discussion on ‘special interest’ topics as determined by Council.
  • Participate in the ongoing consultation, review and implementation of sporting and recreational strategic documents.

Who decides which members are involved?

Expression of Interest for membership the RLC are assessed by Councillor members upon the RLC and recommended to Council for approval.

How many members are involved on the RLC?

The RLC will comprise up to, but no greater than 15 members comprised of:

  • 3 Councillor Representatives; and up to
  • 12 Non Councillor Representatives from the general community, sporting associations and relevant sectors.

How much time do I need to commit to the Commitee?

The RLC meets four (4) times per calendar year and additional meetings will be scheduled if required.

How long will the RLC run for?

The RLC will serve for a period of two (2) years. The current RLC is set to sunset in December 2020.

Where and when are the meetings held?

Meetings of the RLC are usually held within the City of Knox and generally after hours, subject to the availability of Councillor and non Councillor members.
