Words from Women Suburban Bloom

Words from Women on the St

Words from Women on the St was a text, performance and photographic project based in the City of Knox. Inspired by Country Arts Network South Australia Place Making Project 2011, Words from Women on the St was an ephemeral art project combining the written word and visual installations of women and girls thoughts, ideas, dreams and hopes creating a unique insight and glimpse into the women of Knox. These snippets and strands of words were collected by artists Cath Rutten and Nina Ambjerg.

Twelve women from the Knox Photographic Society photographed these thoughts, recorded on speech bubble black boards and Dymo labels, informing a curated black and white photographic exhibition titled Words from Women on the St.

This exhibition was on display at Rowville Neighbourhood Learning Centre (Fulham Rd, Rowville) from March 8, 2013 – April 8, 2013. The exhibition was then on display at Coonara Neighbourhood Learning Centre from April 15, 2013 – May 13, 2013, then at Knox Community Arts Centre in Bayswater until 5 July.

The Knox Festival centrepiece Suburban Bloom was also on display as part of the exhibition at Rowville Community Centre.
