Flash Fest

Huge community participation in FlashFest at Knox Festival

As part of the 2014 Knox Festival, 7 flashmobs were performed over two days.

Knox City Council's Community and Public Arts Officer, Jo Herbig partnered with Council's Be Active Program and Active Ageing Program to coordinate this project aimed at affecting positive healthy living amongst the Knox community.

Professional choreographer and musician Cath Rutten collaborated with a broad range of Knox based community groups to produce seven different performances. Dancers, singers, musicians and sports people were included amongst a whole range of people from different age groups and diverse cultural backgrounds.

Over 600 people danced, sang and walked their way though 7 flashmobs. The flashmobs included a:

  • Singing flashmob.
  • Hip Hop / cheerleading flashmob.
  • Dancing flashmob (to all the old favourites-Nutbush, Macarena etc).
  • Line dancing, Qigong, Tai Chi, Lion dancers, Chinese Fan dancers, Chinese Sword dancing flashmob.
  • Slow motion sporting action montage flashmob.
  • Synchronised walking and freezes flashmob.
  • Multi age instrumental flashmob.

Each of the flashmobs promoted a message for healthier living and were performed throughout the Knox Festival on March 1st and 2nd, 2014.
