Special Meetings of Council

Special Meeting of Council - 10 December 2018 at 7.15pm

Notice is given that a Special Meeting of the Knox City Council will be held at the Civic Centre, 511 Burwood Highway, Wantirna South at 7.15pm on Monday 10 December 2018.

The Council will consider the following matters at this meeting:

1. The extraordinary vacancy for the Collier Ward following Councillor Jackson Taylor’s resignation from Knox City Council and determining the method of voting for the Collier Ward by-election; and

2. Appointing a Councillor to the Office of Deputy Mayor for the remainder of the 2018/19 period.

This meeting is held in accordance with Section 84 of the Local Government Act 1989. The 10 December 2018 Special Council Meeting agenda is available at knox.vic.gov.au.

Note Regarding Public Notice

Section 89 of the Local Government Act 1989 requires Council to give public notice of a meeting at least 7 days beforehand unless prevented from doing so by urgent or extraordinary circumstances, in which case Council must give such public notice as is practicable and specify the urgent or extraordinary circumstances which applied.

On 6 December 2018, Deputy Mayor and Collier Ward Councillor Jackson Taylor submitted his resignation from Council, following his election as the Member for Bayswater in the Victorian Government Election. This Special Council Meeting was called immediately following receipt of that resignation, in order to enable Council to commence as soon as practicable the statutory processes to fill an extraordinary vacancy on Council, and to elect a new Deputy Mayor.
