About Immerse

Immerse is one of the largest and most innovative art exhibition programs in Australia. It is an exhibition that breaks free of an art gallery and through art and storytelling inspires audiences to experience art in the unexpected places of their everyday. Immerse is a conversation with an audience of thousands, first developed and coordinated by Knox City Council in 2015.

The program provides exhibitions, artist talks and performances across local Knox venues over 30 days, making available high quality contemporary art and opening up new cultural conversations to the Knox community and beyond. In 2019 Immerse will debut in an exciting new biennial format with three centralised cultural hubs.

Objectives

  • Engage and promote local artists, local learning, community centres and local business
  • Support artists and encourage art sector development
  • Foster partnerships between, local artists, art organisations, community centres, local business and Council.
  • Enable creative, business and community engagement
  • Raise the profile of visual arts in Knox

Venues

The venues involved range from shopping centres, to cafes, community & arts centres to outdoor platforms such as the Cinema Lane lightboxes in Boronia or the large billboard at Gilbert Park Skate Park, Knoxfield.

In 2019 three cultural ‘Hubs’ have been established to further promote artists within a localised walkable area that is accessible by public transport.

Each Hub will stage a weekend program of events, artist talks and performances encouraging local Knox residents and the broader public alike to participate. Satellite venues around Knox will feature additional exhibitions.
