Biodiversity Buddies - Native Vegetation Protection Grant Program  Printer Friendly

Council will provide up to $1000 to help land owners conserve and enhance the environmental values of their properties.


Knox is known for its Leafy Green Image – this vegetation provides a beautiful aesthetic appeal as well as habitat for local wildlife.

There is now approximately only 4% native vegetation or areas with indigenous vegetation left in Knox – a significant proportion of this is on private land.

Council will provide up to $1000 to help land owners conserve and enhance the environmental values of your property.

Works such as those listed below may be eligible for funding:
 
 Weed removal
 Appropriate fencing of significant bushland for protection
 Responsible pet management (cat enclosures)
 

Biodiversity Buddy Grants up to $1000 are:
 
 $1 for $1 for agreed contracted works
 Full payment up to $1000 for agreed contracted large weed tree removal (definition of large tree to be assessed by Bushland Management Officers)
 Full payment up to $1000 for agreed works carried out by ratepayer
 Assistance will not be given to applicants implementing works required by a compliance notice
 Only works carried out and receipted during the current financial year will be funded
 

NOTE: Contracted work must be carried out by a qualified natural resource management contractor.
 
Is your property eligible?
 
 Your property must have significant remnant indigenous vegetation or be near significant remnant vegetation
 You must be a member of the Gardens for Wildlife program.
 

Assessment criteria:
 
 Importance of the project to the environmental value of the area, particularly to overall community benefit
 Ability of the applicant to demonstrate ongoing responsibility and commitment to the project
 The applicant’s commitment to implement works according to the assessing Officer's recommendation
 If a Land Management Plan is being implemented
 


**** PLEASE NOTE: Priority will be given to applicants that have attended the Biodiversity Buddies Native Vegetation Information Session.****

 Complete the application form by clicking here.
 Additional information to support the application is advantageous, eg: photos/quotes, etc.
 You will be contacted to discuss proposed works
 Claim form will be provided upon the success of your application
 

Closing date for applications is 4 September 2009.

 
Native Vegetation Protection Information Session

Council is holding an information session where you will learn practical management techniques to improve the environmental values and appearances through weed removal, mowing and land management techniques.
