| In addition to typical infrastructure assets such as roads and footpaths, Council is also responsible for a vast and diverse open space network that consists of land and physical infrastructure assets. Open space can be broadly classified into active, passive, natural conservation and other public open space, all of which exist to support open space related services provided for and by the community.
The Open Space Asset Management Plan (OSAMP) aims to provide a strategic and practical framework for both Council and the community with regard to the management, protection and care of open space assets. The Plan focuses largely on operational issues required to ensure the sustainable management of Council’s existing open space network in meeting current and future community needs. Whilst also demonstrating Council’s improving maturity with respect to core asset management knowledge and documentation, the Plan is intended to support the revised Knox Open Space Plan, the Knox Recreation Plan and the general themes in the Council Plan, all of which set the strategic direction for open space management within the municipality.
As well as examining the performance of open space assets, the Plan documents and assesses how Council currently undertakes open space management practices, open space expenditure and service standards, and recommends improvement projects that will balance customer expectations, lifecycle costs and risk management into the future.
