Knoxfield Garden

Gardens for Wildlife (G4W) logo

Ian and Maree Simpson have been Garden for Wildlife participants since 2008 and their garden has won a Category 1 Gardens for Wildlife Knox Environment Award.

“We enjoy planting, watching the garden grow, birds visiting and developing different habitats for wildlife. I’ve recorded about 25 different varieties of birds over the 35 years we have lived here. Brushtail possums enjoy their home in the possum box (mum and baby), fruit bats have been sighted in Eucalyptus ficifolia and other smaller bats are seen at dusk or later. Owls, Nightjars and Tawny Frogmouths are other nocturnal visitors. About 15 years ago Ringtail Possums were common, but none have been seen for many years.

We are concerned about the amount of building occurring in Knoxfield. We encourage people to be proactive in preventing over-development and removal of trees. We support Knox Environmental Society and buy local plants. After spending a great deal of money on plants from other parts of Australia we have found that plants local to our area are the most successful.

Enjoy our wonderful environment and wildlife while we can! Spend 15 minutes a day in the garden, watching, observing and enjoying what you have!”
