Vivien Holyoake is a member of the First Friends of Dandenong Creek friend's group and has been a Gardens for Wildlife participant since 2007.

“Since having Gardens for Wildlife visit my garden, I am seeing many more larger birds, around 14 species at this stage and native flowers I haven’t seen locally since I was a child, right in my own garden! With ‘easycare’ mulch and no mowing, I have flowers that bloom somewhere in the garden all year for me to enjoy.

Getting the local Knox Council experts in to assess my garden has meant I have gotten rid of serious environmental weeds and saved a rare native tree I was going to chop down as it was sickly. It is now thriving!

They also gave me specific help to build a ‘frog bog’, birdbath and lizard habitat.”

Vivien took the photos below approximately a year apart, starting her garden for wildlife in 2006 (first two photos). In the short space of 2 years, Vivien's garden had evolved into a well established, drought-tolerant habitat oasis for all sorts of wildlife.
