Amendment C49 - Sites of Biological Significance in Knox

Protecting Important Plants and Habitat

Sites of Biological Significance in Knox - Volume 2, 2nd Edition

We are lucky in Knox to still have significant habitat and indigenous vegetation.  This is important ecologically and for the contribution it makes to Knox’s green and leafy image. To assist with this, Knox prepared and exhibited a planning scheme amendment C49 to implement the planning recommendations of the Sites of Biological Significance in Knox – 2nd Edition, 2010 study (refer to links below) to better protect and preserve important habitat and indigenous vegetation across Knox.

This amendment (Amendment C49) was incorporated into the Knox Planning Scheme on 11 April 2013. The main elements of the approved amendment are that it has amended the Knox Planning Scheme as follows:

  • Revised the Municipal Strategic Statement (Clause 21.06 Environment);
  • Amended where the Vegetation Protection Overlay 1 and 3 applies;
  • Replaced the interim Vegetation Protection Overlay 4 (VPO4) schedule with permanent controls and applied this to various properties;
  • Replaced the interim Environmental Significance Overlay 2 (ESO2) and Environmental Significance Overlay 3 (ESO3) schedules with permanent controls and applied these to various properties;
  • Revised the Schedule to Clause 52.17 Native Vegetation to enable specific native vegetation species (i.e. Sweet Pittosporum) not to trigger a planning permit under this Clause.

The approved amendment reflects input from the public exhibition and planning panel processes that took place in 2010 and 2011 in relation to the amendment as it was exhibited.

To indicatively see where the Amendment C49 planning overlays apply within the Knox municipality, please refer to the attached map below.

To determine the effect of the amendment on your property, we recommend that you obtain a free Planning Property Report from Land Victoria land.vic.gov.au which will detail the planning scheme zone and overlays that apply to your property.

Please note, that the retainment of the Vegetation Protection Overlay 1 and 3 on some properties, is to enable further review of vegetation provisions on these properties.
