As Boronia changes, we need your ideas and thoughts

Residents and traders in Boronia will all agree that the area is changing. When you look at the Boronia activity centre and surrounding neighbourhoods, there is considerable change due to increasing population pressures.

That’s why Knox City Council is making sure we talk with the community about how to plan best for the future of the area.

Newly-elected Mayor and local Chandler Ward Councillor John Mortimore said it’s most important that we get ideas and thoughts from local people to plan well for the future.

“The area is growing, and changing in many ways,” Mayor Mortimore said. “And that’s why we’re keen to listen and reflect on a wide range of views.

“What we’ve started is a new Renewal Strategy that includes solutions to tackle social, economic and environmental issues,” the Mayor explained.

The strategy is building on the strong foundation of planning completed in Boronia over the past 10 years, added Baird Ward Councillor Peter Lockwood.

“We’ve seen already a high level of interest in this project, with more than 500 responses to Council’s survey,” Cr Lockwood said. “In fact, Council’s Boronia Renewal Strategy project team has been receiving many new and creative suggestions about events, the mix of businesses and shops and potential redevelopment of existing buildings.”

A summary report of all these ideas will be considered by Council early in the new year. The Strategy will be used to guide planning and redevelopment in Boronia over the next 20 years.

There will be other opportunities for the community to make comments on the different aspects of the project over the coming months. If you’d like more information, contact Council’s Boronia Renewal Strategy team by visiting our website - knox.vic.gov.au/boroniarenewal - or calling 9298 8000.
