Media Release - Knox City Council needs YOU!

Knox City Council has put out a call for people potentially interested in standing as a candidate at the upcoming Collier Ward By-Election.

To be eligible to nominate, potential candidates need to be entitled to be on the electoral roll anywhere in the municipality.

The By-Election, to be held on Saturday, 30 March 2019, will fill the vacancy in Collier Ward following the resignation of former Councillor, Jackson Taylor.

Potential candidates are encouraged to attend a Candidate Information Session run by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) on Wednesday, 20 February at the Knox Civic Centre, 7pm - 9pm.

The session will provide information about:

  • The role and purpose of local government;
  • Councillors roles, responsibilities and expectations;
  • The Knox municipality and its key strengths and challenges; and
  • The electoral process.

For more information, please visit Council’s Collier Ward By-Election page, or contact Council’s Governance Department on 9298 8000.

Quotes attributable to the Mayor, Cr Jake Keogh:

  • Democracy at a grass-roots level is only as healthy as the number of women and men prepared to put their hand up to serve on behalf of their community.
  • The Collier Ward By-election presents just such an opportunity, and Council encourages interested people to come along to the Candidate Information Session to find out more about the process.
  • Being a Councillor is a rewarding and stimulating role and I’m sure there are many talented and committed individuals and community members ready to put their hand up to in the service of our great City.
