Media Release - Knox Regional Netball Centre Masterplan adopted

Knox Council has this week adopted the Knox Regional Netball Centre Masterplan, and will now work towards concept plans and detailed designs to further improve and revitalise the facility.

Consultation for the project gathered in 2018 and throughout April 2019 found that players and visitors wanted more indoor courts, improved car parking and enhancements to the existing facilities.

Key features of the masterplan include:

  • two additional indoor netball courts
  • additional sealed car parking
  • a safer pedestrian thoroughfare and improved drop-off zone, and
  • improved entry and landscaping.

Around 6,000 people visit the Centre every week, and this number can go as high as 10,000 people during competition finals and special events.

Council has committed $500,000 for Architectural Design and Documentation for the planned upgrades in the 2019/20 Draft Budget, plus Federal Member for Aston, Alan Tudge announced $4 million for the new indoor netball courts in April. Council is also pursuing other State Funding opportunities.

There will be ongoing consultation with stakeholders as concepts and detailed designs are developed over the coming year.

Quotes attributable to Mayor, Cr Jake Keogh:

  • We know that netball is a hugely popular sport in our region, especially among women and junior players, and we’re excited to be moving forward with this fantastic project.
  • With more indoor courts and improved parking, we can cater for the growing number of people taking up the sport, and make it an even more welcoming facility for current users.
  • We know how important it is to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle and Council is committed to playing its part by providing greater opportunities for participation in local sports.
