Media Statement - Move to honour distinguished citizen refused

Statement attributable to Mayor, Cr Jake Keogh:

Council was advised late yesterday the Office of Geographic Names has refused our request to rename Quarry Reserve after the late former Mayor Frank Johnson.

Council is disappointed that, despite strong community support, our unanimous decision to honour the outstanding legacy of this distinguished citizen has been not supported.

The local community was extensively engaged over the proposal, with 78% expressing support.

Council remains committed to celebrating Mr Johnson’s significant contribution to the Knox community and will work his family and the Office of Geographic Names on alternative proposals.
