Media Release - Immerse, Art in unexpected places

One of Melbourne's largest public art events, Immerse will transform the City of Knox into a living art gallery from 1 September – 29 September 2019.

The exhibition comprises of 44 artists, 49 exhibitions, 35 talks, events and performances. Extraordinary art takes over every day spaces - inviting the public to encounter the unexpected.

Immerse encourages brave new ideas across all art disciplines and across all mediums – from street art to sculpture, paintings to photography, site installations to projections, and for the first time, performance art!

This year the program introduces works across three Hubs; Wantirna, Bayswater and Ferntree Gully and invites audiences to engage with free events, installations, floor talks, performances and exhibitions.

From a cafe or gin distillery, to Westfield shopping centre or a billboard - Knox Immerse allows you to expect the unexpected and explore a wonderful range of contemporary artists in the lush and leafy green suburbs of Knox at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges.

Keep the program in your pocket with our Immerse App where you can read about the artists, vote for your favourite, book your FREE event tickets and browse the Immerse Hubs.

Quotes attributable to Mayor, Cr Jake Keogh:

  • Knox Council is proud to present this innovative program, a leader in public arts programming that invites local, regional and nationally emerging artists to participate, showcasing their work to an audience of thousands.
  • Immerse generates many local partnerships with local businesses, community centres, libraries and leisure spaces to bring the arts into these spaces. The host venues have loved seeing how the arts can transform their spaces and attract new interest to their venues.
  • Moving to the biennial model has allowed Knox to encourage new works and site specific installations, encouraging artists to explore brave new ideas and new mediums, more elaborate creations with the aim to transform our everyday spaces in Knox.
  • The program attracted national media attention over the past two seasons with the captivating ‘Mirror House’ and ‘Section 32’ suburban house transformations. This year’s won’t disappoint, with many more large scale transformations and experiences on offer, including the quirky ‘Blind Date with Blind Creek’ a unique eco-arts experience; and a captivating performance piece set within a Greenhouse.
  • It’s easy to browse what’s on and book your free Immerse event tickets this year, with our fantastic new Immerse App, available from the website
