All aspects of the proposed initiatives will assist young people in developing capacity to actively participate in civic, economic and social activities in Knox.

Social Media for Social Change

Knox City Council Youth Services alongside KIOSC, Swinburne are running a three–day training course for young people aged 16-25 years on how to use Social Media as an effective tool for positive Social Change.

Following the training program, we will be looking to run an action group for young people who will design and implement a social media campaign based around a social issue decided by the group.

The Social Media for Social Change program will provide young people with an opportunity to develop skills in leadership, community mobilisation and social media campaigning.

Participants will come together over three days to work alongside like-minded young people and leaders from within the not-for-profit sector. They will share their own stories, experiences and passions and work through a process of understanding how to turn them into effective community action.

We will have guests from Oaktree, Australia’s largest youth-run anti-poverty organisation, and the Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) , a not-for-profit organisation supporting young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds to build better lives in Australia. Both of these organisations bring a wealth of experience and we are super excited to work with them!
