Early Years Advisory Committee (EYAC)

The Early Years Advisory Committee (EYAC) advises Knox City Council on emerging issues affecting families and young children.

It's made up of community and professional members, Council officers and current Councillors.

How to join the EYAC

To join the EYAC:

  • email [email protected] to register your interest
  • we will let you know when you can apply to become a member. 

The EYAC's objectives

The EYAC's objectives are to:

  • talk with community members, including children, to understand the strengths and issues in Knox from the view of children and families
  • give advice to Council on issues that affect children, families and the wider community
  • work with Council staff to make sure policies, programs and processes meet the needs and rights of children and families in Knox
  • promote children’s voices within Council and the wider Knox community
  • support child friendly cities principles and raise awareness of issues and opportunities affecting children, families and the wider Knox community in Knox.

EYAC member requirements

The EYAC is made up of a diverse group of local volunteers aged 18 and over.

Members have different perspectives and an interest in, and knowledge of, issues affecting young children and families.

Councillor members

Council appoints at least 2 Councillors to support the EYAC.

Current EYAC Councillors

The current Councillors are:

  • Councillor Considine
  • Councillor Kennett.

Council officers

The Council CEO chooses officers to advise and support the EYAC.

Meetings

The EYAC meets every second month in collaborative and friendly face-to-face meetings.

It operates alongside a Terms of Reference.
