Draft Knox Regional Sports Park Masterplan

A bold and ambitious vision of the future of the Knox Regional Sports Park has been proposed, and we are seeking feedback on the transformative project for our City.

Knox is developing at a rapid rate, and in some cases, demand for high-quality sporting facilities is exceeding supply. Which is great, but we need to look at how we can accommodate these demands and foster an active and healthy community.

This Masterplan proposal builds on the Stage One of the 2009 plan that was completed in 2012. Creating a state of the art facility for Knox,
and visitors of Knox to enjoy for generations to come.

The draft Masterplan recommends

Provision of ten (10) additional domestic basketball courts at Knox Regional Sports Park including:
a. Basketball courts to be designed to allow for netball usage;
b. Retention of existing show court (3,200 capacity); and
c. Additional office, administration and storages areas.

Provision of new gymnastics and trampoline facility, suitable for State level competition including:
a. 500-seat spectator viewing area;
b. Trampoline area; and
c. Change rooms and administration areas.

Provision for an 8,000 seating capacity NBL stadium with overflow parking for 2,500 vehicles within the adjacent Cathies Lane Landfill site; and

Provision of a separate Centre of Excellence facility to the proposed future NBL stadium and high performance gymnastics programs

Project Timelines

  • Community Consultation on Draft Masterplan: 24 April - 27 May 2018
  • Council consideration of all feedback: June/July 2018
  • Endorsement of Final Masterplan: August 2018

The Masterplan has now been reviewed following discussions with relevant stakeholders to confirm
their functional needs and requirements as well as completion of a Sporting Demand Needs Analysis.

Consolidation of these inputs is presented in the draft Masterplan which was considered by Council at its 23 April 2018 meeting.
