Neighbour Day 2020

The community you want starts at your front door™

Neighbour Day is Australia’s annual celebration of community, encouraging people to connect with those who live in their neighbourhood.

Neighbours are important because good relationships with others can transform communities. Social connection also makes us feel better as it helps prevent loneliness, isolation and depression.

Whether through a cuppa, a picnic in the park, or a message of support; Neighbour Day is the perfect opportunity to say thanks for being a great neighbour and for being there to lend a hand.

When is Neighbour Day?

Neighbour Day is celebrated on the last Sunday in March every year. In 2020, the official Neighbour Day falls on Sunday 29 March.

How to get involved?

  • Introduce yourself to someone new with our social connection cards available in your local library
  • Participate in the Neighbour Day Contest
  • Go out to say hello to your neighbours
  • Invite a neighbour to your home for a 'cuppa' and a chat
  • Plan a BBQ, picnic in your street or at a park nearby and invite your neighbours
  • Organise a street game like cricket or lawn bowls

The Neighbour Day Contest

To shine a light on some wonderful neighbourhood friendships, we’re running the Neighbour Day Contest 2020. Submit a photo of you and your neighbour and tell us how you became friends and you could each win a $100 gift card.

Entries close 5pm Wednesday 25 March.
