Information on bin requests, stolen bins and missed collections

By recycling the 'waste' produced by households and businesses, we can significantly reduce the amount of waste going to landfill. Knox currently diverts approximately 27,000 tonnes or nearly 50% of the total kerbside waste collected from landfill.

Online Service Requests
You can lodge any of the following requests online for residential waste services;
Damaged Bins
Missed Collection
New Service
Stolen & Missing Bins

 
Bin Requests - New/Cancellation/Second Bin Service
If you are the property owner or authorised managing real estate agent and wish to order a new or second residential bin service please click here to access our Online request system. All online requests will be actioned during business hours.
If you are a tenant and wish to request a second bin service the property owner/authorised managing real estate agent will be required to complete a Bin Request Form to approve the additional fees.

2012/2013 Waste Fees.
Residential properties are entitled to 1 x 80 Litre Garbage bin and 1 x 240 Litre Recycle bin when the property owner applies for a waste service. This combination is at no further cost.
If you wish to upgrade to a larger garbage bin you may request 1 x 120 Litre Garbage bin. A surchage of $39.50 will apply for the larger bin.
A second garbage bin can be requested once the resident has upgraded to 1 x 120 litre Garbage bin. The charge for the second 120 litre bin is $190.50.
An optional green waste bin can be requested by the property owner or authorised managing real estate agent. The charge for the green waste bin is $79.50. A second green waste bin can be requested at an additonal cost of $79.50.

For bin requests where charges apply the property owner or authorised managing real estate agent can complete either an Online request or Complete a request form which has been signed by the rate payer and returned to Council. Please find the request form in the download files list at bottom of page on right hand side.
The charges will then appear on the rates notice. Bins will be delivered once the home is occupied acccording to the date provided on the request form.


Delivery Timeframe: New Bins will be delivered once the home is occupied acccording to the date provided on the request form.
Additional bins will be delivered within 4 business days from the date the request is raised.

Bins - Stolen
Take simple steps first (such as checking with neighbours, seeing if your bin has ended up further down your street etc) before you contact us.

Please note that the bin remains the property of the Knox City Council and please contact us should it be returned.
Delivery Timeframe: bins will be delivered within 4 business days from the date the request is raised.

For stolen bins a declaration needs to be completed, signed & returned to Council.

 Changeover to 1 x 120 Litre Rubbish Bin $39.50
 Second Waste bin 1 x 120 Litre Rubbish bin $190.50
 Second Recycle bin 1 x 240 Litre Recycle bin $66.00
 New Green Waste Bin $79.50
 Second Green Waste Bin $79.50
 Commercial Waste Bins
 Weekly collected 240 Litre Rubbish bin/240 Litre Recycle bin $213.00
 Daily collected 240 Litre Rubbish bin/240 Litre Weekly collected Recycle bin $1,066.00
 All waste and recycling fees will be levied on a pro-rata basis from the date the bins are delivered to the property.
 Fees are reviewed annually and all fees listed apply from 1st July 2012.

Missed Collection
If you placed your bin out before 6am (before 5:30am for commercial services) on your collection day and it was not collected by 6pm of the scheduled collection day, please contact Knox City Council’s Customer Service on 9298 8000 within 36 hours (1.5 business days) of your scheduled collection day.

Example 1: If your bin was missed on a Tuesday, you must contact Council by 12 noon Thursday of the same week.

Example 2: If your bin was missed on a Friday, you must contact Council by 12 noon on Tuesday of the following week.

If you do not call within 36 hours (1.5 business days), then you must wait until your next scheduled collection.

Note: The time in the day when your bin is collected may vary

If you have found a sticker on your bin or a notice in your letter box. Please follow the directions on the sticker or notice.

Maintaining your bin
Please keep your bin free of odours by regularly cleaning with soapy water and a broom or hand held brush.

IMPORTANT: Please do not place chemicals in your bin.
