Knox Arts and Cultural Grants
The 2012 Round of the Knox Arts and Cultural Grants Scheme is now CLOSED

Knox City Council has a commitment to the cultural well-being of its community. Theme Two of Vision 2025 and the Council Plan 2009-13 commits to ‘Creating a community environment in which a range of major and local festivals and activities thrive; culturally rich arts, diverse leisure and recreational activities are abundant and people have access to a range of cultural and leisure facilities, shared open spaces and lifelong learning opportunities.’ The Council Plan’s Theme Two objective is ‘to provide and support opportunities for community members to participate in a vibrant community life’.
Supported by the Knox Arts and Cultural Plan (2012-22), the Knox Arts and Culture Grants are available for the development of the arts and cultural sector of the city and for art projects facilitated by individual arts practitioners or local arts organisations that support and promote the objectives of the Knox Council Plan, and contribute to Vision of the future of our city.

The main purposes of the grant scheme, as approved by Council, are:
a) to develop the skills and capacity of local artists and arts organisations to contribute to the cultural wellbeing of the City;
b) to support individuals and or groups to attend, present, perform or represent Knox at a recognised cultural forum.

When is the grant available?
The funding round opens on Monday, 27 August, 2012 and closes 5 pm on Friday, 21 September, 2012.
Note: Applications received after this date will not be eligible for assessment.

What sorts of activities are eligible?
It is anticipated that the grants will be used by the arts and cultural sector to facilitate opportunities such as securing tutors for skills development opportunities such as masters classes or similar skills enhancement for visual or performing artists, the contracting of professionals such as Directors, Musical Directors, choreographers, technicians or other similar creative industry professionals for the performing arts, arts business seminars, and for travel or minor touring costs for artists or arts organisations to attend a recognised cultural forum, competition or the like.

How much can be requested?
Requests for amounts between $500 and $2,000 will be considered.
Please Note: it is not intended that the fund be used to fully finance a proposed project. Those projects that can demonstrate a contribution by the organisers will be favourably reviewed.

Key dates:
Applications open on Monday, 27 August, 2012.
Applications close on Friday, 21 September, 2012 and completed forms must be with the Council by 5pm.

HOW TO sessions on the purpose of the fund, key criteria relating to the fund, and how to complete the application form will be held on Saturday , 1st September, 2012 at 11am, at the Knox Community Arts Centre, Bayswater, or Sunday, 2nd September, 2012 at 2pm at the Ferntree Gully Community Art Centre, Wally Tew Reserve, Ferntree Gully.

It is anticipated that the assessment and disbursement of funds will be completed before the end of the calendar year, and it is a requirement of the fund that projects are completed before the end of the financial year, 30 June 2013.

Community Centres
The Ferntree Gully Arts Centre and Rowville Community Centre are very arts based with classes ranging from stain glass and pottery to a variety of energetic activities from ballet to hip hop. The Knox Community Arts Centre showcases a range of dynamic and exciting programs of performing and visual arts experiences. Music and theatre programs include; Monthly Concert Capers, senior citizens concerts, Children's music and movement classes, touring concerts, events and theatrical productions as well as performance based classes in singing, dancing, and drama.
 
Celebration of Arts and Culture in Knox
Knox City Council and the Knox Arts and Cultural Development Advisory committee invites you to an event to celebrate arts and culture in the city.
It's a unique opportuntiy for all practising artists and performers, hobbyists, promoters, developers and other creatives to network, shate ideas and opportunities.
