In order to provide a Sustainable Design Assessment, you will need to provide Council with evidence of the sustainability of your development.
You can rate the environmental performance of a proposed development or existing property with these tools:
| | | |
 | STEPS for residential developments, and | | The Sustainable Design Scorecard for commercial and industrial developments. |
|
|
| STEPS – Residential buildings Residential buildings should use the STEPS (Sustainable Tools for Environmental Performance Strategy) tool to rate the sustainability of their building.
STEPS is a free website tool that measures the environmental impacts of your home design. It rates five categories including mains (drinking water) use, building material impacts, greenhouse emissions, peak energy use and stormwater quality leaving the property. It also calculates the number of bicycle places needed and space needed for waste recycling services.
Please note that the STEPS tool will require completion of a FirstRate report.
Moreland City Council and the City of Port Phillip developed STEPS together. A number of Councils in Victoria, including Knox, have adopted the tool.
SDS – Non-residential buildings Non-residential buildings should use the Sustainable Design Scorecard (SDS) to measure the environmental impacts of their design.
THE SCORECARD is an free Microsoft Excel document that rates seven categories including energy efficiency, materials, water, waste, and sustainable design innovation.
Moreland City Council and the City of Port Phillip developed the Sustainable Design Scorecard together. A number of Councils in Victoria, including Knox, have adopted the Scorecard. | |
