Seedlings Early Years Education for Sustainability Program

'Assisting Early Childhood Professionals and Service Managers to meet and exceed the requirements of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, National Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Framework.'

What is the Seedlings Early Years Education for Sustainability (EYEfS) Program?
Seedlings is an innovative, ground-breaking approach that encourages children, families and Early Childhood Professionals to work together towards a sustainable future. The Seedlings EYEfS Framework is adaptable and transferrable across all Early Years settings, and is flexible enough to be implemented regardless of the management structure in place.

Winner Premier's Sustainability Awards 2014

The Premier’s Sustainability Awards recognise and reward leadership in sustainability and celebrate the contribution businesses, institutions, communities and individuals make to a more liveable and sustainable Victoria. Seedlings and its partners were awarded the Premier’s Sustainability Awards Community Award in 2014.

The Project Team extend their thanks to the five partner Councils for seeing the potential and supporting this project from its inception.

  • Knox City Council
  • City of Port Phillip
  • City of Melbourne
  • Yarra Ranges Council
  • Alpine Shire and Alpine Children’s Services.

We also thank the Dept of Environment and Primary Industries and the Sustainability Fund, through the Victorian Adaptation and Sustainability Partnership for making what is probably the most significant investment in Early Years Education for Sustainability in Australia to date.

We acknowledge the leadership and commitment of the 60 Early Years Services who brought Seedlings to life. Particularly the young children who have shown that even our youngest citizens can, and should, play an important role in shaping our sustainable future. They have provided inspiration for many.

There are many other individuals and organisations who have supported either the development or implementation of Seedlings, their expertise and insight has been greatly appreciated.

This experience has been extremely rewarding and has brought a great deal of positivity and excitement for the future. We look forward to the next chapter.
