About Knox City Council Youth Services

Knox City Council Youth Services provides information, referral, support and programs for young people aged 10-25 who are living, working, recreating or studying in the City of Knox.

Our purpose

The purpose of Knox City Council Youth Services is to:

  • Identify youth needs and issues and pursue effective and coordinated responses to them.
  • Provide access to information, services and resources for young people and their parents.
  • Assist young people in gaining the skills, confidence and resources to address their own needs and be active paricipants in their community.

Knox City Council Youth Services Action Plan (from Key Life Stages Plan)

Knox City Council Youth Services are committed to planning for the delivery of relevant services to young people and their families in Knox.

The Key Life Stages Plan brings together Council’s previous Municipal Early Years, Youth Strategic and Active Ageing Plans; focuses on the key life stages of early childhood, youth and older age and recognises that intervention during these key life stages has the greatest benefit for individuals, families and the community.

It is a new and innovative Plan that will deliver an integrated and intergenerational approach to better respond to the needs and priorities of residents across these various age groups.

The Plan aligns with and responds to the Knox Community and Council Plan 2017-21; identifies key issues across life stages and ensures that Knox has the right services, infrastructure and partnerships to build a healthy and resilient community.

For further information contact Knox City Council Youth Services t; 9298 8000 or visit the links to the Key Life Stages Plan and the Community and Council Plan.

Policy and Advocacy

We develop advice for Council and other relevant agencies on youth issues. We assist young people in representing their opinions. This occurs through some of our programs, Youth Issues Forum, Council Reports and more. We are representatives on various youth worker related groups.

Research

We collect thorough data on the use and users of our services. Through support of research by other agencies and secondary analysis, we monitor youth needs and issues in Knox.

Knox Youth Services Resource Guide 2019

The Knox Youth Services Resource Guide is a resource designed for schools, agencies, general practitioners and workers that provide support and guidance to young people 10 – 25 years in Knox.

Other agencies as well as the Knox Youth Information Centre, predominantly in the local area are included on the Knox Youth Services Resource Guide 2019.

The Guide contains accessible numbers and websites of agencies and supports for young people on key topics, in which young people regularly seek support.

Information to specific agencies within the resource includes; Abuse and Violence, Accommodation, Alcohol & Drugs, Counselling services, Crisis support, Disability, Employment and Training, Health related issues, Mental Health, Migrant and Refugee services, LGBTIQ+ and related agencies and supports.

The agencies within the resource do not constitute a recommendation. Users of the KYS Resource Guide should always check information prior to referring a young person ie; vacancies, charges, waiting list etc.

This new guide has been developed and produced in a Poster (A2) format and a Booklet format. If you would like a copy of the Resource Guide in poster format or booklet format, contact Megan Parker, Youth Administrative Officer on 9298 8000 or email megan.parker@knox.vic.gov.au to arrange pick up or delivery (within the local area).

Download the Knox Youth Services Guide in poster or booklet format below.

ConnectUs is a new online directory across Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges areas.
It includes a list of services, supports and programs available to young people 10 - 25 years, parents, families and organisations assisting young people in the Outer East.
