Student Placements with Knox City Council Youth Services

Thank you for your interest in our student placement program with Knox Youth Services, unfortunately in the current circumstances Knox City Council has made the decision to cancel all non-essential events and gatherings for the foreseeable future.

This decision has been made following the lead of the State Government in light of the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation in Victoria. Council has chosen not to proceed with accepting placement students in Knox Youth Services in the interests of public safety and community reassurance.

Council encourages all Knox residents and visitors to continue following the advice of DHHS on hygiene and safety practices and to remain informed on the latest details at DHHS Coronavirus

Knox City Council Youth Services (KYS) recognises the importance of providing opportunities for Tertiary students to gain workplace experience in the Youth Work field.

We will keep you informed when we are next able to provide placements for students.

Student Placements

Knox City Council Youth Services offers two to three placement positions each year for students studying Youth Work or related courses the opportunity to gain skills in the industry, including: group work, information & referral, networking, projects, program preparation and delivery.

As a youth service we will do our best to cater to the student’s placement requirements, e.g. Research project. However, we cannot provide students 1 on 1 counselling experience.

Knox City Council Youth Services are committed to supporting students e.g. information for assignments, days and times for placements, etc

Please note: Knox Youth Services does not offer placement for work experience students. Knox Council has limited number of work experience opportunities to assist students with completing their studies. If you are interested in work experience in another area of Knox Council please visit Work Experience for Students.

Process Application for Student Placement

General placement enquiries will still be accepted but semester applications for student placement will only be accepted during the allocated dates.

Students who wish to apply for a student placement, must first contact Knox City Council Youth Services to discuss suitability, criteria and the placement application forms and process.

On making an application students will need to provide:

  • a letter of application
  • a resume; and
  • complete both the Student Information and Selection Criteria forms, (these will be forwarded after initial contact with Knox City Council Youth Services).

Student Placement applicants for 2nd Semester, will be notified of their application with our service by mid May.

Depending on suitability, e.g. how prospective students address the selection criteria, students may then be invited to attend an interview, requested for further details, or informed that their application was unsuccessful.

All students undertaking a placement with Knox City Council Youth Services will require a current ‘Working with Children Check’ and preferably a current ‘Police Check’.
