Help at home - Domestic Assistance (including Shopping off a List)

What is Domestic Assistance?

Domestic Assistance supports clients with general house cleaning tasks which they can no longer manage independently. Our intention is to work alongside our clients where possible, in order that they maintain their capacity to undertake domestic tasks.

What can Knox City Council offer?

Domestic Assistance is normally provided in the home and may include:

  • vacuuming and/or mopping;
  • bathroom and toilet cleaning;
  • changing of bed linen;
  • dishwashing;
  • dusting;
  • laundry and/or a small amount of ironing;
  • help with meal preparation; and/or,
  • unaccompanied shopping (shopping on behalf of a client from a list).

Shopping off a List

The Shopping from a List service assists with your grocery and pharmacy shopping for those clients who can no longer shop themselves and do not have family or other supports in place to help.

A friendly support worker will collect your written shopping list and preferred payment method from your home and purchase your items at the nearest supermarket/pharmacy. Payment methods include cash; “tap and go” debit or credit card; or Coles/Woolworths gift card. Your shopping will be dropped off to your home along with your change or payment card and receipt of purchases.

During COVID-19 restrictions, we are providing contact-free pick up and drop off for this service as well as maintaining social distancing and universal hygiene practices.
