Outdoor furniture brings local carpenter and tennis club together

Many people are doing their best to support local businesses at this time, and for the committee at Scoresby Tennis Centre, this goal led to an extra special supplier when it came to purchasing new outdoor furniture.

The club decided to install a new seating area alongside some planter boxes in their garden, and during his research of local carpenters, President Craig Douglas found John Kyriacou.

“I found John on Facebook Marketplace,” Craig said.

“I initially bought one seat for the tennis club and one for my own personal use. We liked them so much that we then went back and bought four more seats and planter boxes to go alongside.”

John is a cancer survivor and is unable to work due to requiring kidney dialysis three times a week. For him, carpentry is a hobby which he does out of his partner’s garage in Boronia.

“Any spare time I have, I do my carpentry,” John said.

John is enjoying helping out the community and making his customers happy with new furniture pieces.

“My clients are very happy. They keep sending my photos of their finished products!”

Like most of John’s customers, Craig agrees his handiwork is great quality and affordable.

“At the tennis club, furniture needs to be strong and sturdy, and the products John makes are extremely good quality and solid,” Craig said.

“We’re always looking to support local businesses and buy locally at the club. We’re really happy with John’s products and that we were able to support him.”
