About Peter

I love living in Knox. I am a passionately committed to my local community.

My family has been proud to call Knox home for more than 35 years. I am a proud father and even prouder grandfather.

I spent most of my working life in computers and communications variously in business systems, technical support, management and my own business. A couple of years ago I worked for a time as a school bus driver, primarily with special needs children.

I am a committed local and am interested in what the people of Knox think, and what they need from their council. I am happy to be contacted at any time and to sit down and discuss your concerns.

I love the bushy hills and the creeks and paths in my neighbourhood. I love to walk and enjoy the natural surroundings.

I am keen to help those who need a helping hand and believe that if we all as a community pull together we can make life better for all our residents, from the very young to the very old. We need to look after our seniors, our youngest children (Maternal and Child Health, pre-schools), make sure the roads and rubbish are taken care of, as well as support women in sport, look after our many sporting facilities and manage new development. We have many great sporting clubs and the demands are growing rapidly. Sport is great for kids to develop life skills as well as enjoying the physical benefits.

There is a strong demand for new housing and Knox is popular for families. I have a particular soft spot for sole parent families having grown up in a sole parent family.

We can help our seniors by helping them stay active and stay local. There is not enough housing locally for our elders to down-size and stay close to familiar surroundings.

I have a keen interest in improving our public transport so that we all have access to clean, efficient and frequent public transport 7 days each week, from the small hours, forward to the smaller hours!

I am keen on an inclusive Knox that welcomes our many cultures. We are all Aussies and few are prouder than those who chose to come here and join us. I love the colour and movement that people from the sub-continent bring, I love the food from ... everywhere! And I just love the people from all different places. We all learn so much from one another.

We need to stand up for our region and make sure we get our fair share of government grants, and that governments show respect to local councils in a proper partnership and stop shifting their costs to our ratepayers. I am keen that Knox has a voice in the state-wide forums of the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) and the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA).

We have many challenges ahead and we need to work together to find solutions.

Having a passion for politics, I served as the State Member for Bayswater in the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 2002 until 2006.

Aside from political life, I have a love of books and have previously been a volunteer for the Boronia Library. I enjoy watching the MotoGP, preferably at the track.

I was first elected as a Knox Councillor in 1993 and again in 2000. I was elected again to Council in 2012 and my re-election in 2016 marks my fourth term as a Councillor.

My strengths as a Councillor include my ability to listen to others as well as my friendly and approachable demeanour. I remain dedicated to being a strong voice, working hard to represent all the citizens of our great City.
