Pandemic Recovery: Food and Emergency Relief Grant

This grant aims to support local organisations to provide emergency relief items to Knox residents recovering from the effects of the pandemic.

This grant has now closed.

Eligibility criteria

Eligible service providers can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to provide hot meals, food parcels or other emergency relief to residents in need.

To be eligible for funding, applicants must:

  • Show that they are an established emergency relief provider in Knox. We encourage partnership applications
  • Provide details about the food or emergency relief they will provide, including costs. We will also consider some extra items that support service delivery. For example, plastic containers or petrol for food delivery to peoples' homes
  • Show a direct benefit to the Knox community
  • Be these types of organisations:
    • an incorporated association
    • a co-operative
    • a company limited by guarantee or a trust
    • another organisation established under an Act passed by the State or Commonwealth
    • We will consider organisations under the auspice of another organisation that meets any of these criteria
  • Have completed and reported on previous Knox grants and have no outstanding debts to Knox City Council
  • If the applicant received other Knox City Council grant funding since January 2020, they must show how this grant will provide different or increased benefits to the Knox community


The following cannot be funded through this grant fund:

  • Gift cards
  • Gifts for volunteers
  • Tolls
  • Kitchen equipment or any other equipment
  • Alcohol
  • Wages
  • Reimbursement for expenses already incurred

What happens next?

After the submission date closes, Council will review all applications over a 2 week period.

We will assess applications based on:

  • The level of benefit to Knox residents
  • How feasible and financially viable the service is
  • Clear demonstration of:
    • the need in the community for the service
    • project objectives
    • a plan for delivery
  • The capacity of the organisation to manage the grant

Payment of grant

Council will pay grant money by electronic funds transfer (EFT) to the successful applicant.

Funded projects must be completed within one year.
