City Nature Challenge 2022

Knox has joined forces with 7 other councils in Eastern Melbourne for the annual City Nature Challenge 2022.Together, we will compete as Melbourne against cities from around the world. 

During the 4-day observation period from 29 April to 2 May, Knox residents are invited to find, photograph and document the native plants and animals that lives and grows in our neighbourhood. 

Working together to find and document nature in our area helps scientists and land managers study and protect these species. By joining the City Nature Challenge, not only do you learn more about your local nature, but you can also make Knox a better place – for you and other species!

There are 4 different events running across the weekend:

Bird exploration at Koolunga Native Reserve Saturday 30 April

10 am to 12.00 pm

Learn more about the birdlife in Knox. Join the Friends of Koolunga Native Reserve to help identify and record bird species.

Evening frog exploration at Tirhatuan Wetlands Conservation Reserve Saturday 30 April

5.30 pm to 7.30 pm

Join David De Angelis, a local naturalist, environmental educator and consultant with a keen interest in the conservation and biology of frogs and reptiles to explore the wonderful world of frogs.

Guided fungi walk at Wicks Reserve

Sunday 1 May

9.30 am to 10.30 am and 11.00 am to 12.00 pm

Fungi can often go unnoticed during a walk through nature, yet, they play a critical role in our ecosystem! Become a scientist and join fungi expert Sapphire from Fungi for Land, on a guided fungi walk.
