Our local arts community are planning exciting art exhibitions in the future, with the support of Council’s Business Support Grants for the creative and cultural sector.
A total of $38,588 was awarded to four recipients of the Placemaking and Liveable Communities Grant during round one of the Business Support Grants, they are Muddy Girl Studio, Ferntree Gully Village Traders, Ferntree Gully Arts Society, Fab Nobs Theatre.
Muddy Girl Studio, a pottery studio and school located in The Basin, will be creating a one of a kind public art for The Basin Triangle Park, and residents will be invited to participate in the creative process.
Five unique individual drum-like ceramic chairs will be created with local flora and fauna depicted on them.
“I wanted to link the artwork with the immediate surroundings, which is such a wonderful environment full of native animals and plants,” says Claire Johnson, artist and business owner of Muddy Girl Studio.
This community arts project is designed to build social connectedness, promote cultural diversity, and contribute to our community identity.
During the September school holidays, Claire and her team plan to host pottery workshops for residents. Families and children will be invited to come along and create nature themed figurines for the ceramic chairs.
Pottery wheels will be on full display for the public, and demonstrations of ceramic painting skills will be shared with visitors during the workshops. Further information about the workshops will be available on the Muddy Girl Studio website and Instagram soon.
In December, the ceramic chairs will be installed in The Basin Triangle Park, providing an everlasting symbol of our community coming together.
Council’s Grant has help funded the materials for the project, artists’ time, and installation costs of the chair.
