Council provides a range of services and resources to support local carers in their roles supporting others. We run information sessions, exercise and activity groups, social activities and health and wellbeing initiatives.
As part of National Carers Week, we are expanding these services with a series of free online events aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of our carers.
- Too Peas in Podcast webinar, 11 October, 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
- Introduction to Mindfulness for Carers, 13 October, 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
- Come N Try Carers Exercise Class, 15 October, 12:30pm to 1:15pm.
- Achieving Your Goals Webinar, 18 October, 7:00pm to 8:30pm.
Information and support tailored specifically for carers can be vitally important to someone who is dealing with daily caring responsibilities.
Sue Read is a full time carer for her 39 year old son Andrew who needs 24 hour support as a result of an acquired brain injury. Sue currently attends our online exercise sessions and is keen to join our Pathways walking group when COVID restrictions are lifted.
The Knox Guide to Disability and Aged Care has also helped save Sue valuable time and understand the support available to her. “It makes things much easier being able to just pick up one book to find out what local services are out there for carers, rather than scroll through numerous websites. There are so many services and activities that I just didn’t realise that we could tap into.”
