Emergency management planning

Managing Victorian emergencies has changed dramatically since the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.

Knox City Council works with the emergency management sector to make sure our community stays safe in an emergency.

How emergency management works

Emergency Management Victoria decides how agencies work together before, during and after emergencies.

Victoria has a shared goal for emergency management.

This is a lasting, efficient system that reduces the chances and consequences of emergencies.

Across the Knox area, our focus is in line with State and regional objectives.

We work to ensure positive, community-focused outcomes with:

  • agencies
  • departments
  • industry
  • business
  • community
  • all levels of government.

Municipal Emergency Management Plan

The Municipal Emergency Management Plan (MEMP) addresses emergencies within Knox.

It does this through:

  • prevention
  • response
  • recovery.

See the Knox Municipal Emergency Management Plan (2022 to 2025)

The Municipal Emergency Management Plan is developed by the Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee, chaired by Knox City Council.

Members include:

  • emergency service organisations
  • key partner agencies involved in relief and recovery
  • community representatives.
