Green Waste

Knox Council collects green waste bins and bundles of green waste.

What green waste is acceptable?

  • Flowers
  • Garden prunings
  • Grass clippings
  • Leaves and bark
  • Weeds - except for noxious weeds (eg. blackberries)

Disposal of your living Christmas Tree after Christmas

They are acceptable in our Bundled Green waste service and can also be taken to the Knox Transfer Station at 251 George Street, Wantirna South

The requirements for the bundled collection are:

  • up to 30 cm in diameter
  • Limited to 1.5m in length tied with string (Biodegradable string)
  • maximum weight of 30kg

Bundled green waste

You can put out bundles of branches/prunings for collection. Bundles can be up to 30cm in diameter and 1.5m in length tied with string (maximum weight of 30kg).

Grass clippings, garden prunings, leaves and weeds free of soil can be put in your green waste bin. Or you can use a rigid container, as long as it is less than than 55 litres and 30kg. Please note that Wheelie bins are not suitable for this manually lifted service due to OHS guidelines.

Containers will be returned to the nature strip after collection.

Where does your green waste go?

Green waste from Knox collections goes to Van Schaik’s Bio Gro. Van Schaik’s Bio Gro has been a leading innovator, working in partnership with companies and local councils all throughout Australia to achieve optimum recovery of organic material.
