Seniors and Aged Care

Australian Aged Care Services Reform

Aged Care Services in Australia are currently going through a process of reform. In today's new environment, access to Aged Care services, in the first instance, is dependent upon your age.

Under 65 Years

The Victorian Government continues to fund services for people aged under 65 years (under 50 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) under the Home & Community Care (HACC) Program for Young People with some clients transferring to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) as it rolls out in Victoria.

65 Years and Over

Since 1 July 2016, services for people aged 65 years and over (50 years and over for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people) are directly funded and managed through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

What does this mean for me?

In essence, your entitlement or right to receive Aged Care Services that are Government funded has not changed. However, depending upon your age, the pathways to Aged Care Services funded by the Government and the types or Services available will differ. Please select the link below which is applicable to you for further information about the relevant pathways:
