- 3,000 Trees, Shrubs and Ground Covers Planted
On Sunday 30 July we hosted a National Tree Day community planting along Mountain Highway, Boronia. The atmosphere of the day was electric and reflected by the sunny weather. Together, more than 200 community members planted 3,000 indigenous trees, shrubs and groundcovers.
Some highlights our Biodiversity team recall include:
- Kicking off the morning with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony by Wunrundjeri – Woi Wurung woman, Julie Coombes and introduction from Mayor Marcia Timmers-Leitch
- The long snake of plant tubes built by children and their families
- Meeting and speaking with all the community who gave up their Sunday morning to help plant so many trees, shrubs and ground covers
- Celebrating with a BBQ and catch up around the playground
Thank you to the following volunteer group members from:
- Lions Club of Wantirna
- Lions Club of Boronia
- Knox Environment Society
- Friends of Blind Creek Billabong
- Friends of Old Joe’s Creek
- Friends of Koolunga Native Reserve
- Friends of the Gully
Thank you to everyone who attended the event. Your efforts continue to contribute to Knox’s habitat corridors and vegetation targets.
