- Homegrown Festival Fun
The much-loved Stringybark Festival celebrating homegrown creativity, the environment and sustainability is back in October.
Knox Mayor, Cr Marcia Timmers-Leitch said the free community event features a fun and interactive program with activities for the whole family.
“Stringybark, established in 1985, is Knox’s longest-established community festival celebrating and promoting modern takes on sustainability,” she said.
“Our community is passionate about protecting our environment and being sustainable in our everyday lives, and this festival helps reinforce some fun ways we can do that here in our own backyard.
“I invite everyone to come along and check out what’s on offer, including two stages of local and regional acts, a makers market, cooking demonstrations and heaps of children’s activities.”
A community stage will feature local dance and singing groups and a special visit from Toby the T-Rex, while a Buskers Stage will showcase local up and coming musicians and vocalists.
Foodies will be spoilt for choice with the Stringybark Food Court and a Backyard Tucker Stage hosted by Lillie Giang. Local chefs will prepare dishes with edible natives, rescued produce and homegrown ingredients, using sustainable and waste-reducing practices.
Food will again be served on reusable plates and bowls provided by Green My Plate.
A makers market will feature homemade, enviro-friendly and locally made products and crafts.
Council will have marquees hosting fun games, information and activities relating to waste education, sustainability, leisure, youth, family and children’s services and more.
Other program highlights include adventurous outdoor games, active amusements and reptile encounters to learn about some of the weird and wonderful creatures that live in our backyard and how you can help protect them and their habitats.
Stringybark Festival is on Sunday 15 October from 10am-4pm at the Rowville Community Centre, 40 Fulham Road, Rowville, and surrounding parkland.
