Service Updates

We are prioritising critical services and some services may be reduced. This means there will be longer wait times for customers contacting us by phone. Many of our services are available online. Advice on which services can continue is changing rapidly. For regular updates, go to

Safe footpaths

To keep our footpaths safe for use, we inspect our local footpath network every two years as part of Council’s Road Management Plan. To allow safe passage, a minimum clearance of 2.5 metres from the ground up is required from the edge of your property boundary.

How to keep footpaths safe

It is recommended that you check your gardens in autumn and spring each year, and trim plants that may cause a problem. When checking plants it is important to remember their growing patterns to ensure that you trim at the right time. When planting new trees or plants close to property boundaries, allow plenty of room for growth, so foliage does not spill onto footpaths or neighbouring properties.

Should we find that there is an issue with overhang or foliage that has overgrown across the footpath you will be notified via a notification card which will be left in your letterbox. You will be required to prune the branches or foliage within two weeks.

For more information regarding your obligations please refer to Overhanging tree branches.
