Before you start

Neighbour Day is all about neighbours in your street getting together to meet each other in an informal social setting, chatting, sharing some food and connecting.

By supporting neighbours to gather together we hope to foster friendly neighbourhoods and an inclusive community. Knowing your neighbours improves general wellbeing and contributes to people's sense of safety.

All you need is someone willing to host a gathering for your street and to invite the neighbours along. Knox City Council will provide invitations, resources (like conversation cards) and planning support.

What you will need

  • 5-10 minutes to complete this form. You cannot save progress once you start
  • List of addresses you will invite to your event
  • Photo of your proposed location in JPG or PNG format under 20mb (e.g. front yard, driveway, local park)

General guidelines and conditions of running a Neighbour Day gathering:

  1. Keep your Neighbour Day gathering local - it is intended for one street or a couple of smaller streets together. If you have a very long street or live on a major road, you may need to choose just a section to invite
  2. Aim for a maximum of 50 people. Could consider inviting up to 50 houses (not everyone will come)
  3. Must be a private event, by invite only to neighbours
  4. Be inclusive of all your neighbours. Don't leave some neighbours out.
  5. Location must be safe and accessible to all, disability, elderly, children, prams etc.
  6. Preferred location is someone's front yard, driveway, or a small park or reserve within walking distance for all.
  7. Street closures are not possible. Footpaths must not be blocked.
  8. For safety reasons, no dogs are permitted. Any dogs at the host location will need to be contained.
  9. Ensure the activity is alcohol, drug and smoke (including vape) free. If individuals are engaging in this activity either ask them to stop or leave the activity.
  10. Consider weather conditions, shade/shelter, and safe food storage and handling if it is hot.

This event is for addresses in Knox only. No other suburbs will be accepted.

A local park or reserve can be used if it is nearby and short walking distance for all attendees.
