Knox has 5 community and neighbourhood houses that provide inclusive opportunities for people to connect, learn and participate in activities.

About our community and neighbourhood houses

Our community and neighbourhood houses welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. They play a vital role in supporting Council's work to improve the health and wellbeing of the Knox community.  

The houses offer a range of programs, including:

  • health and wellbeing programs
  • art, craft and creative activities
  • computer and digital skills development
  • language, literacy and learning opportunities
  • social and connection groups
  • cooking and hospitality programs
  • targeted programs for children and families.

Coonara Community House 

Coonara Community House is a friendly and inclusive space where everyone is welcome to connect, learn and grow. The house offers a wide range of programs and services designed to inspire personal confidence, empower individuals, encourage community participation and provide learning opportunities that are relevant and accessible to all.

Orana Neighbourhood House 

Orana Neighbourhood House is a place where people can come together to offer each other friendship, encouragement and support. Orana offers a range of programs including adult education classes, hobby and leisure courses, exercise classes, social and self-development groups. The house strives to meet the needs of the community by offering quality, low-cost adult education and programs to improve wellbeing, creativity and social connection.

Community Learning Centre

The Community Learning Centre runs a variety of programs. The house is dedicated to providing high-quality, affordable services and educational programs. It offers a welcoming and respectful environment, which encourages participation, sharing, growth and learning. The house also offers a range of programs and activities for children.

Mountain District Learning Centre  

Mountain District Learning Centre is a registered training organisation (RTO 3969), learn local centre and neighbourhood house. It offers education, training and a variety of activities in a supportive community setting. The house commits to ensuring everyone feels safe, empowered, supported and respected, especially young people. It celebrates diversity of race, culture, ability, gender, sexuality and gender identity.

The Basin Community House 

The Basin Community House is committed to providing affordable and high-quality adult education programs that increase skills, employment opportunities and pathways to further study.
