Preschool Field Officers

Experienced Specialist Early Childhood Teachers

The Preschool Field Officer Service is an early childhood education service funded by the Victorian State Government (DET) and Knox City Council who provide a free advisory service for families of children accessing their State Government funded kindergarten year, or planning to do so in the next year.

Knox City Council Preschool Field Officers are experienced Early Childhood Teachers with additional specialist qualifications.

Families play a key role in their children’s development

At times, families can become unsure about their preschool child’s progress in areas such as:

  • social skills
  • emotional wellbeing
  • communication skills
  • behaviour
  • thinking or movement
  • inclusion and participation
  • preschool or school readiness

Kindergartens can be:

  • Knox City Council operated services
  • Independent
  • Registered within child care services

Preschool Field Officers provide assistance to children, families and early childhood educators by:

  • observation of children within their early year’s environment and discussion of the observations with educators and family
  • listening to your concerns
  • supporting, advising and resourcing families and educators
  • referring, if appropriate, to specialists, educational and family support services
  • providing a confidential report in a timely manner
  • being available for visits and phone conversations throughout the preschool year
